Alexi's Grand Adventure Part 6
Hi there and welcome back to Scribbles for another week filled with fun and excitement for you readers to enjoy! Today we'll continue Alexi's Serial. Here's a brief segment from last week to catch you up on what's going on!
Last Week: Oper fiddled with a ring of keys from a hook next to the door. He found the key after what seemed like an eternity and was about to open the door when a muffled sound that resembled something like a firework and a door being slammed shut at the same time, echoed down the hall of the fancy red doors.
Oper unlocked the door and yanked it open. "Get in!" he yelled.
"Why? What was that?"
"That," Oper said as she walked in and he shut the door leaving them in complete darkness, "was the Shark Task Force."
"Shark? Why are they here?"
"To destroy this place."
This Week: "Destroy this place? What?" Alexi said, following Oper through the door into pitch black. "I thought this was some alternate universe thing created by you? Why is there a task force? Isn't that like army stuff?"
"Better then the Army." Oper flicked a switch and light flooded Alexi's vision. They stood at the end of a long concrete tunnel with blue ceiling lights leading the way around a bend in the tunnel. "They are here to shut down the system. We must hurry!"
Another loud thud, what Alexi now presumed to be an explosion, rumbled behind them as they headed down the tunnel. Oper took off at a sprint and Alexi had a difficult time keeping up. The do ctor, who was handling some sort of electronic device in his hand didn't seem to notice as the gap widened between the two.
"Wait up!" Alexi shouted, out of breath.
Oper turned and slowed down, motioning for her to follow. She caught up to him at last. He was turned against the tunnel wall opening the door to what looked like a wall safe. He yanked open the steel door and reached in, pulling out a headset. He jammed it in Alexi's direction so she took it and put it on. There were no wires, just a mouthpiece and comfortably squishy headphones. Oper pulled out a pair for himself. Then he pulled the electronic device, which now that Alexi saw it up close, looked like some kind of slick black remote with red, blue, and green buttons.
"Listen up kid. These buttons control explosives I have set up around the facility. Once they start going off you won't be able to hear my voice normally, so I built these headphones for such an emergency. you'll be able to hear me through the headphones and respond through the mouthpiece. got it?"
"I think so?" Alexi said.
"Good."
The doctor pressed the red button. for a moment nothing happened, and then a tremendous explosion rocked the tunnel. A wave of air flew past the two of them, followed by a cloud of dust and debris. Oper went back to the safe and pulled out two small black devices with screens.
Through the mouthpiece he spoke to her. "These are devices with security camera footage in real time. There's also a honing device on here, and you can see where you are on the map at the bottom right corner of the screen. If we get split up, use this to find your way to the portal. Do you understand?"
Alexi wiped sweat and dirt from her brow. "Yeah. But let's not get split up."
It was strange, she thought, how just minutes before she could care less about this guy and wanted nothing to do with his fancy technology, and yet now she was desperately wanting for them to stick together. She shook her head. Oper gave her a questioning look, but she just looked back down the now cloud-covered tunnel.
"Come one then!" Oper shouted, spinning in his white lab coat which was now a dirty brown. Alexi followed at a dead sprint. She was about to ask why they were running so fast if they had just blown up the tunnel, but a moment before she could speak she heard another explosion behind them. Faintly she could hear the purr of an engine. Lights flickered off the tunnel walls behind her.
"What is that coming!" she said before gagging on a clump of dust that she accidentally swallowed.
"Motorcyclists. With machine guns. Run!"
Oh the tension is building! Lots of action in this week's post! We hope all of you readers enjoyed it, and tune in next week to see what happens to Doctor Oper and Alexi. How will they stops the motorcyclists? Will they make it to the portal? Why are the Sharks after them?" You'll just have to wait and see! ;)
