Alexi's Grand Adventure Part 4

Heeeelllllooooo!!!! :D Welcome to this week's post! It is the fourth part of Alexi's adventure, and things are just starting to get interesting!

Last week: At last the chair came to a stop in front of a pair of non-impressing, wooden doors. The chair began to sink into the floor, so Alexi hopped off of it. The door had a small gold sign with an engraving that read: Dr. Oper, Chief Holographic Expert. Alexi grabbed the brass knobs and pulled the doors open.

This week: Alexi hesitated a moment, not quite sure if she wanted to open the door, and run in the orher direction. She stepped forward, ever so slowly, looking into a room filled with desks, computers, flashing lights, black electrical boxes, TV screens, and wires winding in every direction. At the far back wall, some forty feet away from Alexi, a man stood hunched over one particular computer screen. From the light coming from all of the screens, the man looked tall, wiry, with a shock of red hair that looked as if a nuclear bomb had exploded in the middle of it. The man's outline gave off a bluish tint due to the screens.

"Hello?" Alexi said, stepping around one rows of metal desks.

The man jumped from his position, spinning around. His elbow slammed into the edge of the desk and he let out a yelp. Alexi couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips. The man rubbed his elbow and smiled when he saw Alexi. His face was thin, and he wore glasses the size of windows. Alexi thought he was the spitting image of a mad scientist. Suddenly she felt even less safe. But she had to admit that the man, well he looked very young to be called that ( she guessed he was twenty-five at the most) had a very attractive, wide smile. He stuck out his spindly hand, and Alexi took it. It felt warm. Ew.

"Welcome, Alexi! I'm doctor Oper."

Well his voice, high-pitched, and sounding like it was about to crack, definitely fit the rest of the doctor.

"Let me get a few things straight right away," he said, fidgeting. "First off, you are in no danger whatsoever. All of the animals, the entire landscapes you were driven through, were nothing but holographic images put together. Secondly, this is not a dream. Thirdly ..." he hesitated as if trying to think of something to say. "Thirdly, welcome. Oh, I already said that." he laughed. "See, this is an experimental thing I've been working on. I was surprised I got you to teleport here, safely! There was the slight mistake of taking your bed with you, but that will only take minor changes to get right."

Alexi began to see the picture. "That's all very cool, and it's really impressive, but what is the purpose of this? I mean I've got a family, friends, one who in a coma! How they going to react when me and my bed are just gone?"

"Ah, the purpose!" Oper smacked his lips, clasped his hands behind his back, and began to pace back and forth. "When I began this years ago I never knew how much I would be able to accomplish. The point of this place is simple: to escape everyday life and enjoy things you ordinarily could not. But my work is frowned upon by most, so I just decided to do this secretly. You are my first successful teleportation, so your feedback is crucial. What do you think so far?"

"What do I think?" Alexi scoffed, throwing her hands up in the air. "I don't know what to think! I sure don't want to be here."

Oper stopped pacing. You don't?" He stopped pacing. There was a tinge of sadness in his voice. It was less vibrant, less excited. "Do you wish to be sent back home?"

"I would certainly like that."

"Very well then. This way."

Aaaaaaaand that concludes this week's adventure! What is going to happen? Is Alexi just going to go back home? You. bet not! Come back next week to see what happens when Doctor Oper is chased by the government and forced to flee with Alexi!
