Alexi's Grand Adventure Part 9
Hey there Scribblets! WE'RE BAAAACK!! Sarah and Malachi are refreshed and ready to get you back into the swing of things. It's been two weeks since we saw what was going on with Alexi, so here's a long intro, and then we'll hop into this week's segment of the adventure! :)
Last Week: "That's it as far as the portal is concerned. As far as Mister Shark, not so much." The doctor pulled out his controller and pressed what looked like a switch. The floor beneath the shattered mirror heaved open. Below, about a foot deep, lay a small pit, loaded with all sorts of weapons ranging from assault rifles to swords. Alexi even noticed nun chucks.
"I don't like the looks of this," she said, stepping to the pit. "you didn't say we were going to fight anybody?"
Oper joined her and pulled a pair of handguns from the pits. "But you did say that you would listen to my instructions. They are as follows. Grab a weapon and kill the army coming after you, or be tortured till you'd rather be dead."
"If you put it like that, "Alexi mumbled. She picked out some sort of bazooka. Staggering to hold it to her shoulder, she gave a thumbs up to Oper. "I'm ready."
"Just in case that isn't enough." He jammed a pistol into her pocket and grabbed a handful of grenades. "This is going to get loud, maybe even to loud to hear over the headsets. You've got to trust your instincts. There's no way out of here except through that tunnel. That means we're going to need to clear a path to it."
Alexi gulped and nodded.
This Week:
It took less than two minutes for the banging to begin. From the security camera on the head computer thingy that Alexi and Dr. Oper were wearing, they could see the task force march down the tunnel with what looked like a black, handheld, battering ram. Sure enough, when they got to the door, they started smashing away. When the doors crashed to the ground, Alexi shuddered and jumped. Oper opened up fire immediately, and the gunshots echoed in the tall room. The noise was deafening. Alexi thought that Oper was yelling something, but it could've just been him screaming in fear.

Then the soldiers started shooting back. Out of fear more than grit, Alexi fired the bazooka. The recoil sent her flat on her butt and the bazooka rolled away, smoking billowing from the barrel. The rocket itself whistled straight for the doorway and exploded on impact, sending soldiers flying in every direction. The smoke cleared and they came charging through again, guns blazing. Oper dragged Alexi behind the tub and started chucking grenades.
The camera showed static for a moment, and then the resolution returned to show a pile of dead bodies and guns scattered near the doorway. Alexi peeked over the top just as Oper shot down a soldier. He stumbled back against the wall and then staggered to his knees, coughing blood. Alexi nearly heaved, but just kept it in.
"They're taking some time to re-gather. We've got to get restocked," Dr. Oper said, hauling out a massive machine gun. It had a bipod that he set up right in front of Alexi. "When they come in I just want you to squeeze on the trigger. Don't stop till you feel safe."
Alexi nodded, and with trembling lips blurted out: "What if I never feel safe?"
Oper smiled crookedly, "Then keep shooting." Then he took a more serious tone. "These guys are maniacs. They aren't stopping to they get the crystal, or till they are dead. I prefer the latter."
Alexi wiped a tear from her eye. She was shaking uncontrollably, and she could feel the adrenaline coursing through her veins. There was an anger that was slowly filling her mind. It said one word, over and over and over. Survive. Survive. Survive.
"They're coming again. This time when they do, you're going to keep shooting. I'll sneak around to the right side of the door. When you're out of ammo I'll hop in and finish them off. If I don't make it, hide. Do not let them find you. Shark is not a nice man. You think you can do that?"
"Yeah," Alexi nodded, this time with a tight grimace.
And there we are! The action is coming fast and furious now! Next week we'll see if Alexi and Doctor Oper survive, and if they do, how will they escape? Tomorrow we've got creative Tuesday, followed by an exciting Wednesday. See you then! Have an awesome Monday. :)
