Memorial Day Veteran's Tribute

It's Memorial Day here in the states and Scribbles would like to take the time to honor all the amazing men and women who have served their country. We want to start off with an iconic poem:

Freedom Is Not Free
by Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Sometimes we forget about just how important our troops are, and even when we honor those who have died, we often times forget the very real truth that there are still people dying every day, for the freedoms we so casually use day to day. At this time we want to mention two troops who have served to preserve our nation.

Without daily sacrifices by every branch of the military both former and present, we would not have the country we do here in America. So today, on this national holiday, let's remember these men and women for everything they've done, and for the freedom they fought for. Let's honor them with a final tribute:

Thank you for reading this special post. Every time a holiday in America comes up, we'll be making such posts. Be sure to check out tomorrow's post which will be a creative piece of literature.
